Module Description: This module explains how the construction constituents of client, consultant and contractor fit together in the procurement process. It goes on to explain the client decisions necessary in order to choose a suitable procurement route.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO1 Describe the development process from inception to completion and give appropriate feedback to the client in relation to the project.
LO2 Select the most appropriate methods of procurement for construction projects.
LO3 Explain the factors that influence the client's choice of design team and the contractor's choice of project.
LO4 Evaluate the factors which affect time, cost and quality on a construction project.

Project Initation, Briefing, Design, Information
Site identification and evaluation, development identification and evaluation, identification of client needs, the role of the contractor in the design process.
Cost Planning
Comparative and elemental cost planning.
Methods of Procuring a Construction Project
Delivery of a project from a concept to an actuality, alternative procurement routes available to the client and their influence on the time, cost and quality of the project.
Tendering Procedures
Invitation to tender, preparation of tender, tender adjudication, vetting of tenders, contractor selection.
Risk Allocation
Identification of the elements of risk associated with a construction project, the prioritisation of these risks and their effect on the overall cost of the project.
