Aural skills involves the recognition of any chromatic note off a major or dominant chord. Auxiliary instrumental skills involves playing, and sight reading, on an auxiliary instrument in a live band context

Indicative Content
Harmony
Upper structures: the identification of "chords within chords" and related theory. How to add upper structures through tensions, with the implied change in chord/scale relationships. The harmonization of a melody using acquired advanced level harmonic concepts - slash chords and chords from the major and minor scale. The re-arrangement of a popular, approved "standard" song, utilizing the techniques outlined above.
Ear training
The identification by ear of any note (chromatically, not diatonically speaking) off a dominant chord, expressing the answer using numbers rather than letter names, as this is not perfect pitch. This skill draws together both harmonic and aural awareness and fosters a high degree of relative pitch in an harmonically advanced setting.
Auxiliary instrumental studies
The demonstration in a live setting of fluency, with the addition of sight reading; unseen material will also be performed.
Aural skills continuous assessment
Students will be marked on attendance and preparedness for each weekly lab; additionally weekly skills evaluations conducted on a computer using the app EarMaster will be utilized.
