Module Description: Appreciation of the basics of Finance and Management controls.
Review how financial decisions are made, both short term and long turn, based on knowledge of the benefits of being able to analyse financial information, costing and budgetary controls.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO1 Recognise the principles underlying supply chain management accounting and managerial finance, and develop the skills required to assess the financial impact of decisions and contribute to the wider management decision-making process.
LO2 Appraise and interpret financial statements and prepare accounting information for management control and decision making.
LO3 Explain the difference between profit and cash-flow, the importance and linkages between both, and how to improve overall profitability and liquidity.
LO4 Appraise the role of corporate planning and budgetary control as key elements in managerial finance, including the preparation and utilisation of performance measurement techniques.
LO5 Analyse and assess investment appraisal and working capital management.

1. Introduction to the framework of management accounting & managerial finance. 2. The users of financial statements and their requirements. 3. Identification, calculation and uses of key financial ratios. 4. The purpose of standard costing and the calculation and overview of basic variances. 5. The importance of Cash-flow, liquidity and solvency including how to set up an effective credit management system 6. The purpose of budgeting, types and construction of budgets 7. Identification of key investment appraisal techniques. How the various techniques are applied and their strengths and weaknesses. 8. Working capital management techniques.
