Module Description: This module is designed to provide the student with an understanding of, and the ability to apply, the key principles and processes of sustainable supply chain management to the agri-food business sector. The module covers the principle elements of the discipline focusing on the agribusiness sector incorporating agriculture and horticulture business in Ireland e.g. Supply Chain Management, Sustainability, Logistics Management, Distribution Management, Supplier Relationship Management and Customer Relationship Management. There is an examination of supply chain issues within the agriculture and horticulture industry including structure and organisation, environmental and social impacts, consumer behaviour, retailing, distribution, purchasing and negotiation.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO1 Critique the role of supply chain management from producer to consumer in the agribusiness sector.
LO2 Analyse the economic, environmental and social impacts of the supply chain from the producer to the end-consumer.
LO3 Differentiate between the role and needs of various stakeholders in the context of a sustainable Irish agribusiness supply chain.
LO4 Apply analytical tools and techniques to achieve optimal global supply chain process improvements.
LO5 Explore sources of power within the agriculture and horticulture business sectors.
LO6 Discuss the development and tasks of the contemporary food supply chain management considering the EU Common Agricultural Policy.
