Module Description: Tourism events and festivals continue to be a fast growing area of activity in both the private and public sector. Students will explore the area of event and festival development and execution including the use of a property management systems (PMS).
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO1 Describe the range of event types, stakeholders and organisations involved in the events and festivals field.
LO2 Describe the role and functions of the events manager, and the processes associated with planning, organising and managing the operations of events and festivals.
LO3 Identify the components appropriate to specific event types, their provision, presentation and effect on the success of them, and the costs and implications of each.
LO4 Operate as part of an effective team in the organisation of an appropriate event.
LO5 Simulate the event management and booking modules of a Property Management System.

Indicative Content
Event Management Planning
Growth of the events and festival industry. The variety of event types and the purpose of each type i.e. social and entertainment, cultural and heritage, educational, sporting, for corporate, for profit and charity. The impacts of events and festivals on the community, stakeholders and location. The bidding and tendering process.
Event Planning
Creating the concept and carrying out a feasibility study in line with objectives, budget and sponsorship. Marketing events, promotion, PR and the event programme. Sustainability and greening practices. Risk assessment and opportunities analysis of a proposed event/festival.
The role of the Event Manager and Team
The key role and duties of the event manager and team in the organization of events/festivals. Task and activity planning, time-lines based on the client brief/concept and budget.
Co-Ordination of Events & Festivals
Based on the concept - staffing, volunteers and allocation of duties. Analysis and management of the event admission/registration process, permits and licenses, hybrid & online events, the events/festival programme, food and drink, green practices, communication, timing and troubleshooting.
Event Logistics Management
Site/venue inspection, evaluation, planning and utilisation. Event protocol requirements. Health & Safety aspects. Technical requirements. Developing event checklists, activities breakdown and timelines. Use of PMS for property venues, customer data, pricing and billing.
