Module Description: This module facilitates the consolidation of English language skills at the C1+ level as defined by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Among its focuses will be practice of relevant grammatical and linguistic structures and application of these to authentic text localisation tasks and pluricultural business communication simulations. It emphasises the influence of cultural settings and their attendant norms, practices and media on business practice, business discourse and business communication.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
# Learning Outcome Description
LO1 Localise a range of texts in the areas of business, journalism, current affairs and/or society/culture for audiences from varied English-speaking linguistic and cultural contexts.
LO2 Engage successfully in simulations of typical business scenarios including – but not limited to – negotiations, new product pitches, sales pitches, team meetings, or conference presentations.
LO3 Research and evaluate specific aspects of contemporary business culture in the Anglophone world, pointing, where relevant, to the influence of broader culture and society; report on this effectively in a project format.
LO4 Consolidate knowledge of advanced grammatical structures necessary to consistently produce appropriate language and language structures at C1+ level.
LO5 Communicate orally to an advanced standard of competency (C1+) on topics in international business and trade, and on Anglophone culture.

Indicative Content
Cultural and linguistic localisation of texts
Applied practice in the linguistic and cultural localisation of varied texts (journalistic, current affairs, business and literary) between Anglophone contexts.
Business and culture
Critically analyse, comment on and discuss key aspects of and trends in culture and society in a selection of Anglophone contexts, with a focus on the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Evaluation of these in socio-historical and geopolitical context. Identification and application of relevant and appropriate research methodologies to communicate their impact in written, oral or hybrid/multimedia format.
Key topics in business
Research, comment on, contextualise and critically evaluate topics of contemporary significance in Anglophone business culture(s). Indicative topics can include – but are not limited to – trade, key business models, foreign direct investment, and entrepreneurial climate.
Advanced grammar
Review and practical application of grammatical elements and grammatical / linguistic structures at C1+ level.
Advanced oral communication
Consolidation of oral communication skills at a level sufficient to interact confidently and professionally in typical business situations, whether in one-to-one or in group scenarios.
