Indicative Content |
What is it?
The project will involve a collaboration between the student and the employer organisation by completing a work based project aligned to their field of study. In order for the student to complete work based project they need to be employed by the host organisation where the programme derives the needs of the workplace and the learning i.e. work is the curriculum. In some cases, learners may need to engage in a process of recognition of current competencies prior to the determining the scope of the project.
Exploration
The student is expected to manage and negotiate their project with their employers and academic supervisor. The project will be based on the student professional needs, the company requirements and academic programme learning outcomes. Due diligence must be taken to ensure that the student will receive the necessary support from the employer organisation and the topic of consideration must present a sufficient intellectual challenge aligned to the NFQ level of the programme.
Independent Learning Skills
Once the student and employer have specified the project, the student will need to differentiate between theory and practice and will develop a solution that addresses the needs of the employer and the identified project. The project may not currently be aligned to their current role but should allow the student to work in an area that aligns with their career aspirations.
Work Based project
As part of the project the student will work on an issue that will allow them to develop and enhance their skills aligned to the programme of study. They will be expect to design and implement a solution that demonstrates their learning, work as part of a team to plan and implement the project successfully.
