Describe and apply personal assertiveness techniques and manage conflict and stress in the workplace. |

Explain the individual’s role in setting objectives, planning work/career options, evaluating their own performance utilising a range of performance management tools. |

Recognise the differences between mentoring and coaching and implement such techniques. |
LO4 |
Discuss and critique key aspects of time management and career planning. |

Apply effective oral and written communication skills. |

Indicative Content |
Personal behaviours/attributes that influence work experience
Assertive behaviour, preventing/dealing/managing conflict, stress negative and positive, dealing/management of change, recognising and dealing with bullying and harassment, effective negotiation to achieve individual and teams objectives, understanding your own influence on others’ behaviour/performance.

Time management and Planning work and career
Time management techniques and tools, setting objectives and goals (short and long-term). Delegation of tasks and responsibilities. Planning your own continuous development/learning and career plan.

Performance Management
Performance management – what is it, how it is measured and improved. Examples of performance management systems, concept of performance management as it applies to your own role. On-going evaluation of performance, utilising feedback about own performance.

Mentoring and Coaching
Difference between mentoring and coaching, mentoring and coaching techniques and methodologies, evaluating effectiveness of both. Role as mentors and coach, positive and negative reinforcement. Role as a recipient of mentoring/coaching.

Communication
Communication dynamics, body language, assumptions, different points of view, developing good listening and responding skills. Information retrieval, Technical report writing and analysis, presentation skills, effective meeting skills, delegating to meet objectives, application of motivation theories in the effective management of people.
