Module Description: |
This module will critically analyse the regulation of international trade within the context of current debates concerning globalisation and good governance. It will also provide the student with an objective analysis of the global issues confronting international companies and policymakers from a legal and economic perspective.

Trade Theory and Policy
Global macroeconomic indicators, Trade agreements, Tariffs, Quotas, Subsidies.

Foreign Exchange Market
Current global economic environment, monetary policy, exchange rate determination, exchange rate regimes, mitigating against exchange rate risk.
|
Private Law and Public Law
The role of private law in international trade. Contract law in international transactions. Conflict of Laws.
Public international law. Relationships between sovereign states. The legal status of international trade agreements.
Legal instruments and uniform trade terms. Regulation of international payment instruments

Regulatory Framework and Dispute Resolution
The system of regulation utilised by the World Trade Organisation, World Bank and International Monetary Fund. Implementation and monitoring of international trade agreements.
Systems for resolving international trade disputes. WTO dispute resolutions mechanism. Dispute resolution in bilateral trade agreements. The use of arbitration in international trade contracts
